Worked Example
A 50-year-old with 5 years of continuous service and £500 gross weekly pay: each of the 5 qualifying years falls in the 41+ age band (since the employee was at least 46 throughout), giving 7.5 weeks' pay. Estimated statutory redundancy pay: 7.5 x £500 = £3,750.
Assumptions
- Only full years of continuous service count.
- Only the most recent 20 years of service are used in the calculation.
- Statutory minimum service requirement is 2 full years.
- The weekly pay figure entered is used as-is; the calculator does not apply a statutory cap for you.

FAQ
Is this the same as my employer's redundancy offer?
Not necessarily. This estimates the legal minimum (statutory redundancy pay). Your employer's contractual scheme may pay more.
Why does my age matter?
The statutory formula pays more per year of service the older you are when made redundant, banded at under 22, 22-40, and 41+.
