Scotts Turf Builder Rebate Calculator
Work out the rebate your receipt earns — per bag or per complete program — and what the seed costs after the money comes back.
Calculator Inputs
The preset amounts come from recorded US retailer offers: $5 per 4,000–5,000 ft² bag and $10 per 8,000 ft² bag or larger in Fleet Farm's 2025 notice, $5 per 5,000 ft² bag in Farm & Home Supply's notice, and $50 or $75 per complete 15,000 ft² program in the Sutherlands offer. Your own store's current notice overrides every preset — choose Custom and type the amount it states.
Enter the coverage printed on the bag, not your lawn size: the rebate tiers are written in square feet of bag coverage, and a program pays only when your bags add up to a complete 15,000 ft².
Calculation Breakdown
| Step | Calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Offer applied | Your selected offer shape | - |
| Per-bag amount | Tier rule for your bag size | - |
| Total coverage | Bags × bag coverage | - |
| Rebate back | Per-bag amount × bags, or the program sum | - |
| Spend | Bags × price per bag | - |
| Net cost after rebate | Spend − rebate | - |
| Rebate per 1,000 ft² | Rebate ÷ coverage × 1000 | - |
Scenario Analysis: Four Ways To Buy The Same Lawn
| Route | Bags | Coverage | Rebate Back | Per 1,000 ft² |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Your basket | - | - | - | - |
| Complete 15,000 ft² program | - | - | - | - |
| Smallest qualifying bag (4,000 ft²) | - | - | - | - |
| Largest bag (8,000 ft²) | - | - | - | - |
The last three routes are modelled at the recorded per-bag and program amounts so you can see which bag size your lawn rewards. A program pays once per complete 15,000 ft², so buying two 8,000 ft² bags earns one $75 seeding-tier payment, not two.
How To Claim Without Getting Rejected
Read the qualifying-products listRebates name the products and bag sizes they cover. A Turf Builder fertiliser notice does not automatically cover a grass-seed bag, and a seeding program may require the whole bundled range.
Buy inside the offer windowThe recorded Fleet Farm window ran 1 February to 30 June 2025, so these offers are seasonal. Note the start and end dates on your store's notice before you shop.
Keep the itemised receiptThe form asks for product details and proof of purchase, and a card statement line does not name the bags. Photograph the receipt in the store car park while it is in your hand.
Submit by the stated deadlineRecorded forms go online at the address the retailer states, or by mail-in form. The deadline usually sits a few weeks after the offer ends, so submit as soon as the receipt is final rather than waiting.
Track the card, and check the guarantee separatelyKeep a copy of what you sent until the prepaid card or cheque arrives. The Scotts satisfaction guarantee is a different promise about product performance, and a rejected rebate does not affect it.
What A Scotts Turf Builder Rebate Actually Is
A rebate is money back after the purchase, paid by a retailer's promotion on Scotts products. You pay the full shelf price at the till, then submit a form with the product details and proof of purchase, and a prepaid card or cheque follows if the basket qualifies. It is not a discount applied at checkout, and it is not the Scotts satisfaction guarantee, which is a separate manufacturer promise about how well the product performs. The recorded offers pay $5 on a 4,000–5,000 ft² bag and $10 on an 8,000 ft² bag or larger (Fleet Farm's 2025 notice), $5 per 5,000 ft² bag of Turf Builder fertiliser (Farm & Home Supply), or $50 to $75 per complete 15,000 ft² program (the Sutherlands offer).
The Two Shapes: Per-Bag Tiers And Complete Programs
Per-bag tiers pay an amount tied to one bag's coverage, so three qualifying bags earn three payments — three 5,000 ft² bags at $5 each is $15. Programs pay once, and only when your bags add up to the stated total: the recorded ones require a complete 15,000 ft², at which point a single $50 or $75 payment lands regardless of how many bags made up that coverage. That difference decides everything. A basket of 8,000 ft² returns $10 on the tier and $0 on a program, while 16,000 ft² returns $20 on the tier at two $10 bags but $75 on the seeding program.
Why Bag Coverage Decides Your Rebate
The tiers are written in the coverage printed on the bag, not in your lawn's size. A 4,000–5,000 ft² bag earns $5, an 8,000 ft² bag earns $10, and a bag size between the tiers — a 6,000 ft² pack, for instance — earns nothing under the recorded notice because no tier covers it. Read the coverage figure off the front of the bag rather than guessing from its weight, because two bags of identical weight can carry different coverage claims when the spread rate differs.
The Rebate Is Worth Less Than It Looks
A $5 rebate on a $34.99 bag returns 14.3% of what you spent, and $15 across a 15,000 ft² basket works out at $1.00 per 1,000 ft². Against a $75 seeding program on an $89.98 spend the same arithmetic returns 83.4% and $4.69 per 1,000 ft², which is why the program tier is the one worth structuring a purchase around. Compare the rebate per 1,000 ft² with the bag price per 1,000 ft² before you buy extra bags to reach a threshold: coverage your lawn cannot use is seed you paid for twice.
Method and limits
This calculator applies the recorded offer amounts to the numbers you enter. It multiplies the per-bag amount by your bag count, pays a program sum once when your total coverage reaches 15,000 ft², and divides the result by your coverage and spend for the per-1,000-ft² and share-of-spend figures.
- Assumes your basket is on one receipt inside the offer window — most recorded offers limit the promotion per household and per transaction, so splitting a purchase across receipts can change what is payable.
- Assumes every bag you count is a qualifying product — the recorded notices name specific Turf Builder lines, and a non-qualifying bag inflates the rebate this page shows.
- Does not model tax, delivery or non-qualifying items — the price you enter should be the shelf price of the qualifying bags alone.
- Does not model the offer's per-household cap or the retailer's submission deadline — no recorded source fixes a single deadline, so check the notice for your own dates.
- Does not decide eligibility — the retailer adjudicates every claim. This page estimates what a qualifying basket earns; it cannot guarantee that a claim will be paid.
- Figures are the recorded 2025–26 offers — these promotions are re-issued on new terms each year, so a live notice from your store overrides every preset here.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much is the Scotts Turf Builder grass seed rebate?
It depends on the retailer's current offer. The recorded offers pay $5 back on any 4,000–5,000 ft² bag and $10 on any 8,000 ft² bag or larger (Fleet Farm's 2025 notice), $5 per 5,000 ft² bag of Turf Builder fertiliser (Farm & Home Supply), or $50 to $75 per complete 15,000 ft² program (the Sutherlands offer). Enter your basket above to see which of those your receipt earns.
Is the rebate the same as the Scotts guarantee?
No. The satisfaction guarantee is a manufacturer promise about the product performing; a rebate is a retailer promotion that pays a fixed sum on a qualifying purchase during a stated window. You can claim one without the other, and only the rebate needs a receipt and a form submitted by its deadline.
Why does my small lawn earn nothing under a program offer?
Program offers pay on a complete program — the recorded ones require 15,000 ft² of coverage — and pay nothing pro rata. A single 8,000 ft² bag therefore returns $0 against a $50 program, but $10 against the per-bag tier. The calculator shows the shortfall in square feet so you can decide whether buying up to 15,000 ft² is worth it for the $50.
What proof do I need to submit?
The recorded forms ask for the product details and proof of purchase — the dated receipt showing the qualifying Scotts items — submitted online at the address the retailer states, or by mail-in form before the offer's deadline. Keep the receipt until the rebate arrives; a screenshot of a bank line is usually not enough because it does not name the products.
Do I pay tax on the rebate?
This page does not model tax. A rebate paid on a purchase you already paid tax on is generally treated differently from ordinary income, and the treatment depends on your own situation. Check with a tax adviser rather than assuming, and do not reduce any tax figure by the amounts shown here.
Can I claim on grass seed as well as fertiliser?
Only if the current offer names it. The recorded Fleet Farm and Farm & Home Supply notices cover Turf Builder fertiliser products, while the Sutherlands offer covers a seeding program, and the Home Depot annual program bundles Rapid Grass seed with EZ Seed Patch & Repair and Thick'R Lawn. Read the qualifying-products list on your own store's notice before assuming a seed bag counts.
