A sheet material weight calculator converts length, width and thickness into a weight, using the material's density as the missing fourth number - weight equals volume multiplied by density. Two of the current top search results, steelexpress.co.uk and aalco.co.uk, publish this exact formula and a mild-steel density of roughly 7850 kg/m³ on their own calculators, but both stop at metal. This page runs the same maths for eight materials - steel, aluminium, stainless steel, plywood, MDF, timber board, glass and acrylic - so a workshop, shopfitter or hobbyist comparing a wood-based option against a metal one gets both figures from one page.

How The Weight Formula Works

Volume in cubic metres is length x width x thickness, each converted from millimetres to metres. Multiply that volume by density in kilograms per cubic metre and the result is weight in kilograms. For a 2440mm x 1220mm x 18mm sheet of MDF at 750 kg/m³, that is 2.440 x 1.220 x 0.018 x 750 = 40.2 kg per sheet; ten sheets for a job come to 401.9 kg (886.0 lb).
