How Campsite Hook-Up Amps Work
Power (in watts) equals voltage multiplied by current: at the UK's standard 230 V mains supply, a 10A hook-up gives 230 V × 10 A = 2,300 W, and a 16A hook-up gives 3,680 W, according to the Camping and Caravanning Club's electricity guide. Everything you run at once — kettle, heater, fridge, chargers — has to add up to less than that figure, or the pitch's breaker trips.
What Can You Actually Run?
Low-power items like lighting, phone chargers, a TV and a fridge or coolbox (around 100 W) use relatively little of even a 10A supply's 2,300 W budget. High-draw items are the problem: a kettle at roughly 2,200 W, a hairdryer or straighteners at roughly 1,200 W, and an electric heater anywhere from about 1,000 W on Low to 3,000 W on High, per Heatable's appliance running costs guide. The Kettle-And-Heater Trap
